Rijeka Sport's Association organized round table for 20 local sport stakeholders and professionals to inform them about the #GoodGovernanceSport project and results of IO1 (research report) and to encourage discussion on the good governance in sport organizations, particularly about online transparency and visibility. The first MSE in Croatia was organized on the 9th May 2019 and gathered 20 representatives of sport clubs, associations, the City of Rijeka and Primorsko-goranska County Sports Association. During the event, #GoodGovernanceSport project was presented, together with its activities and results. Special emphasis was on the IO1 – research of 56 web sites of national and European sports federations and its results.
After presenting #GoodGovernanceSport IO1 results, we conducted small workshop on how to improve the system of good governance in sport organizations. Participants were divided in 3 groups. Each group choose the number between 1-3, and got a question.
The questions were the following:
1. What are the reasons for bad practice of good governance in sport?
2. Examples of good practice of good governance in sport (local, regional, national level).
3. Next steps to improve good governance in sport.
Each group had 20 minutes to discuss the ideas and afterwards presented their solutions. The emphasis was on online transparency and visibility.
All participants engaged into discussion and made the following conclusions:
- The reasons for bad practice of good governance in sport (online transparency and visibility) are lack of professionals, IT illiteracy, new legal provisions of GDPR, irresponsibility of responsible institutions.
- A good web site of sport organization should involve the following information/documents: Statute or other basic document, responsible persons, Boards, members, plan and programme for the current year, professionals with qualifications of national federations, register, social media (FB, Instagram) links, results, categorized athletes, calendar of competitions, and register of members of NGOs.
- Next steps to improve good governance in sport (online transparency and visibility) are the following: education, regular information updating, informing the public, networking, and dissemination of information, promo materials, digitalisation, social media, and more resources.
